The problem
Money in a household is shared and private at the same time. A partner should see the rent. A parent helping with a deposit should see the goal, not the salary. Most tools offer all or nothing.
Three controls
- Who. The owner mints an 8-character invite code, optionally emailed with a join link. It expires in 7 days and can be revoked before it is used.
- What. Six areas, each on or off per viewer: expenses, budgets, savings, debts, planner and documents.
- How much. Full detail or summary. In summary mode every amount is blanked on the server before it leaves, so the viewer's browser never receives a number.
Members and viewers
A member shares the household outright: they see everything and can add to it. A viewer sees only what is switched on, at the detail chosen, and can never edit. The owner can preview what a member sees, and remove anyone; access ends immediately.
Why server-side matters
Hiding a number in the interface leaves it in the page. Grownz blanks it before the response is built, so summary mode is a property of the data the viewer receives, not of what the screen chooses to show.
